Accelerating Time To Value

What are you doing next Wednesday (13 th September)? Well, if you have any interest in contract management, you might like to spend the first hour of your working day from 9 am to 10 am (for UK readers anyway) taking part in a webinar with and Spend Matters. It is titled 'Accelerating Time to Value', and will look at how organisations can get real benefits - and quickly - from contract management technology solutions.

If you don't know the firm, Icertis is a leading specialist enterprise-class contract management lifecycle solution provider, and their solution is used by many clients for both buy-side (procurement) and sell-side contracts. The firm is probably better known in the US than Europe at the moment but is making a real effort to change that. They have recruited a number of “big hitters” here recently, mainly senior ex-Emptoris staff by the look of it. You might draw some conclusions from that, and you would probably be right! With IBM announcing earlier this year that the Emptoris product is effectively being wound down, there will be many users of the Emptoris contract management capability who are wondering what to do next. IBM is recommending a switch to, and that may well be a good solution for some.

But any good procurement professional would want to consider their options in a situation like this, and other leading contract management providers (including Icertis) will no doubt see that as an opportunity. So in the webinar, I’m going to be talking about why procurement people must take contract management seriously (I have been saying this for many years ), how technology can help and how you can build the business case for investment. I will also identify some of the key “decision factors” you should consider if you are looking at a software selection decision in a post-Emptoris world, or indeed you are just considering investment generally in this area. There will also be a speaker from Microsoft, which is both a user of Icertis and a partner in technology terms - Icertis is itself is built primarily on top of Microsoft’s Azure technical infrastructure. Then Martin Mohr of Icertis, their GM in Europe, will get into the product in a bit more detail too.

There will also be time for questions and answers within the hour, and we hope it will be informative and stimulating for the audience. By Lainie Guthrie, Vertical/Market Program Manager, HPE To stay ahead of the competition, you need to find ways to bring apps and services to market faster than ever before. Lengthy release cycles, complex interdependencies, high support costs, and a lack of portability are key inhibitors that are being addressed by the rapid adoption of container technologies. According to Gartner, 'by 2018, more than 50 percent of new workloads will be deployed into containers in at least one stage of the application life cycle.” A container consists of an entire runtime environment bundled into one secure package including the code, runtime, system tools, and system libraries. Docker containers allow developers to use the right platform to meet the business need, quickly add new capabilities and features, effortlessly scale to satisfy peak demand, easily remediate issues, and release updated versions in hours. The question is: With uncertainty surrounding Dell Technologies’ product roadmaps, do you want to embark on a lengthy DIY project to design, source, build, integrate, test, and deploy a container environment that relies on the unknown? Or would you rather choose a pre-integrated, fully interoperable container environment that is designed, built, and tested from the ground up by industry leaders for rapid deployment and accelerated time-to-value? HPE and Docker—Powering distributed apps across hybrid IT Today, the unique HPE and Docker Alliance is delivering the DevOps capabilities you need—faster, simpler, and better than anyone else in the market.

Both the Docker Engine and support come bundled with HPE servers and are fully integrated with HPE management tools. Businesses that replace their Dell servers with HPE servers and Docker containers will be positioned to create distributed applications that are portable across any infrastructure much faster than their competition—and fully supported by HPE. 'The default availability of Docker's technology on every HPE server and HPE's hyperconverged platform enables enterprises to take advantage of the benefits of containerization while leveraging their investments in existing systems and process,' said Ben Golub, CEO of Docker. 'Having a strategic alliance that starts with Docker Engine but extends to include our commercial end-to-end platform, Docker Datacenter, provides HPE customers with a comprehensive solution that covers all of their requirements over time. Enterprises leveraging this joint solution can achieve immediate efficiencies while focusing on existing applications—which can include a 20X optimization on their infrastructure—while shipping their applications 13X faster.' Docker-ready HPE servers HPE servers—including HPE ProLiant, HPE Apollo, and HPE Cloudline—are delivered to your data center pre-configured, pre-tested, and ready for Docker Engine and Docker container environments. Designed for increased hardware optimization, rapid time-to-value, and greater portability, these Docker-ready servers add value by simplifying and accelerating the deployment of Linux® and Microsoft® Windows Server® 2016 containers across traditional, cloud, and Microsoft Azure® environments.

In addition, HPE BladeSystem, HPE ConvergedSystem, and platforms come ready for enterprise-scale Docker deployments, enabling DevOps in virtualization clusters. HPE Reference Configurations for Docker Datacenter allow you to quickly deploy Docker Datacenter in a production environment for virtual machine vending capabilities and rapid adoption of private cloud and container environments.

Unified management of container, virtual, and traditional environments HPE and Docker are also collaborating in the development of new HPE container-enabled technologies to simplify the management of hybrid IT environments. These include Docker-integrated, which leverages the unified OneView API to quickly deploy and manage the infrastructure that Docker Engine and Docker containers run on—along with HPE SiteScope, an agentless platform for monitoring the availability and performance of Docker nodes and clusters in a Dockerized environment.

Make the Smart Choice — Accelerate time-to-value with HPE and Docker Combining the strengths of HPE—the world’s leading innovator of cloud infrastructure—and Docker—the leader in containerization—enables you to rapidly modernize your data center, transform your DevOps, and stay ahead of the competition. And to make things even easier, HPE provides a single point of contact for supporting enterprise-grade Docker and HPE technology solutions, offering 24x7 access to a global network of specialists.
